Start of the new tour
This is my first signing since the end of the summer. I did Waterstones Kettering on Saturday the 1st of September 2012. It was a brilliant day and also lovely staff as always. Waterstones stores give the best welcome to writers. Lindy Chambers (events co-ordinator) contacted me in January and asked if I would like to do a signing there, of course I agreed. My 'Curious World series' was well received and next time I appear there, i'll have my new novel: Crank Tech One - DESTRUCTION. I love what I do. Do you think my pose is model-like? |
Great for a writers retreat
Saddleworth House - holiday apartment in Kilgetty West Wales; is great for a quiet holiday for two, or for a writers retreat. I've spent a week there with my wife and loved every minute of it. Judith and David Barrow are the lovely owners. Judith Barrow is a writer of novel's and plays. David spends much of his time in the garden, tending to the beautiful flowers and hedges that surround this secret hidaway for couples (one bedroom apartment).
If you're a serious author or poet and need time to finish that novel, or if you just need time to kick back and relax. I can't recommend Saddleworth House enough. It's set in Kilgetty and is only ten minutes away from the lovely coastal village of Tenby and eight minutes from Saundersfoot. Check out my 'Links' page for the website.
PENfro Book Fest 2012
This year is the second PENfro Book Festival 2012. This event in September is a two-day spectacular, filled with workshops, author talks and signings. It runs from Saturday September 15th - Sunday September 16th and is set in the beautiful country mansion of Rhos-y-gilwen North Pembrokshire Wales SA43 2DW tel: 01239 841 837. At the event will be, all the big welsh publishers; Honno, Gomer, Parthian, Starborn books and many others.
I will be signing copies of my books at a table with a feast of authors (adult and childrens) in the main hall. I love supporting welsh book festivals and am looking forward to talking and mixing it up with all the best Wales has to offer in literature. Do come and support welsh literature.
Meeting a fellow fantasy author
Karen Langtree is a young children's fantasy author. I met her first a few years ago at Borders bookstore Oxford Street London. She was doing a signing at the time on her first book 'My Wicked Stepmother.' Since then we've kept in contact and on Monday August 6th 2012 we met again. This time she was signing at Waterstones Cardiff shop. My wife Jan was with me and we also met Karen's husband Ian. They only got married in 2011. Karen has written two more books since; Fairy Rescurers and Fairy Rescuers - Return to Elysia. Her books are selling really well. She is dabbling in YA fiction now too. It was lovely meeting her again and maybe some day I'll venture to her neck of the woods. |
A fantasy adventure
This is the exciting story of strange worlds and even stranger creatures. Shelley Vendor loves books and, with her friend Katie, another bookworm, take a school trip. It's an event to meet their favourite author on World Book Day. This journey will change their lives forever. Shelley and Katie fall into the weird world of Reflections. Why is the ruthless; Shadrack Scarrat after her? This mean overlord and his Razzard Wolves are hot on her tail. And what are the Plogs? There are twists and turns aplenty. If you like your adventures fast and furious...The Curious World of Shelley Vendor is for you. |
A nice success story
Joseph D'Lacey signs a two book deal.
I met a guy a long time ago called Joseph D'Lacey. I was doing a signing at Borders Leicester at the time (later Borders went into liquidation) not because of me you understand.
Joseph approached and we talked. He had just signed a deal with a publisher called Bloody Books. He's a horror fiction writer and his book was called, Meat. He did a second book with the same publisher called Garbage Man. I, must admit that I haven't read any of them (what can I say, horror scares me), but the books went on to greatness. Stephen King even quoted this man as 'Joseph D'Lacey Rocks!' Things happen in recession and Bloody Books went under! This left Joseph with nothing. His agent parted ways and he struggled to get a small publisher from the states to take on his work. I found it crazy at the time, I mean he was famous in my eyes and all his fans, but couldn't get another contract. Now things have changed. |
He recently got a fabulous agent and a publishing contract with Angry Robot. He secretly wanted to work with Angry Robot for a while and now he's signed a duology deal. The two books will be; Black Feathers (April 2013) and The Book of the Crowman, following in 2014. I am really pleased for him. He's a nice man and great author.
