This is what its all about.
This little lady is my granddaughter Amaya. She's only one and a half, but she's already getting into the swing of looking at picture books. I think this is amazing.
This is where it all stems from. Getting the young into looking, and eventually reading. Amaya obviously doesn't understand yet - she's just enjoying the pictures, but it will come.
This is why I organise the Rhondda Book Fair - to get people reading again. And... not just the young, any age? We all need to read at some point in life, and finding something interesting to read about, is the key.
It also doesn't matter if its a book, or magazine, comic, newspaper or a graphic novel - as long as there is text, and you're enjoying it. A book can be a real comfort too. If you're away from family, grab a book and immerse yourself in a fantastic adventure, and it can take your mind away, to somewhere else for a few hours. On holiday is a great time to read, while getting a tan, by the pool.
If the author you love reading has done a series, then the enjoyment can go on and on. I still hate it when I have to put a book down, and I need to go and do something else. It's that excitement of needing to know what happens next. And you can't wait to read the next chapter. When the story gets intense, I find my heart pumping... reading is that powerful. I know it's only words on a page, but it can pick you up and sweep you along.
We all have busy lives, but taking time out to relax with a nice drink - a comfy sofa, and just fall into the world an author has created. Whatever your interest - there's something out there waiting for you in a book.
Keep on reading Amaya, that's my girl.
